We have been bold enough to innovate a way to future-proof food production, are you bold enough to catalyse the change?
Global discussions within the climate change agenda are often focused on the “why” rather than the “how” of climate action. However, to make real progress, we must shift from debating reasons to focusing on tangible, scalable solutions.
During this year’s COP29, we aim to promote boldness over hesitation.

Updates from COP29

Spowdi Session
“How fast are we moving to bridge the gap between financing and the small-hold farmer? What’s the cost of not accelerating what we are doing?”
That is the questions asked at the beginning of Spowdi’s interactive COP29 session ‘A Proven Business Case: 300% more food, 80% less water and no CO2’. During the next 1 hour and 40 minutes, the session took a deep dive into the food-climate agenda, exploring a proven and scalable model based on building resilience and creating socio-economic value throughout the value chain, starting with the last mile; ie. the small-hold farmer. During the session we got to hear the perspectives of multiple key stakeholders in the transition, from financing institutions to implementing organisations, on how we can achieve true large-scale impact.
IFC Session
Nov 19 IFC’s COP29 session ‘Using Climate Financing to Enhance Water Conservation through Precision Irrigation’ took place at the World Bank Group Pavilion, which Spowdi’s Henrik Johansson attended as a speaker. During the session, he got to share his insights about the important role of climate finance in the efforts to scale innovative precision irrigation solutions that can transform agriculture, making it resilient and regenerative.

International Solar Alliance event
Nov 18 Yesterday at COP29, Spowdi’s Henrik Johansson was invited to speak at a session hosted by International Solar Alliance. The session, ‘Global Solar Facility – Catalysing Solar Investments Across the Globe’, provided various perspectives on innovative financing mechanisms and sustainable growth strategies within solar investments. When asked about his experience of entering new markets, Henrik discussed the need to shift focus in order to achieve permanent change:
“So far, we haven’t seen that much focus on scalability. But we do see the absence of commercial thinking throughout the value chain, and because of that – an absence of solutions for permanent change … Our focus is transforming small hold farmers into Impact Generators by giving them the right tool-kit and knowledge to become sustainable, independent, self-sufficient and profitable businessmen and women, permanently.”
EQT Session
Nov 13 Spowdi’s CEO Henrik Johansson spoke at the session ‘Accelerating our collective impact by fast-tracking climate tech to scale’ hosted by EQT. The insightful and interactive session focused on the urgent need to accelerate investment and deployment of climate technologies, exploring how investors and policymakers can aid them in their journey to scale.

Connect for Impact at COP29
To achieve real impact on a larger scale, collaboration between various stakeholders is vital. Our ‘Connect for Impact’ campaign aims to bring together various kinds of Impact Enablers and Impact Generators in order to make change happen.

Meet our Smart Farmers
This is Bhavnaben, one of our Smart Farmers from India. At Spowdi’s interactive session at COP29, you will have the opportunity to hear her and other small-hold farmers’ stories about making the transition toward Smart Farming.
Team Spowdi at COP29

Henrik Johansson, CEO & Co-founder
“I think it is time for a new way of thinking and acting. We therefore invite all relevant stakeholders—from the financial institutions, national development agencies, private equity and other enablers to move into action. We invite with the full awareness of the serious opportunity cost of leaving millions of acres of land and farmers without the chance to earn a living while saving the environment as Impact Generators.”

Jakob Kiefer, Director of Public and Government Affairs & Board Member
“This COP, one of the main focus areas will be finance. For small-hold farmers, access to financial kick-starts is critical in order to mitigate and adapt to effects of climate change.”

Rupali Mehra, Chief Marketing Officer & Head of Asia
“Small-hold farmers can be Impact Generators and future-proof the food production system. However, they need Enablers. Now is the time to step up and be bold. It’s time to become catalysts of change.”
