Spowdi’s Agenda for COP29
Global discussions within the climate change agenda are often focused on the “why” rather than the “how” of climate action. However, to make real progress, we must shift from debating reasons to focusing on tangible, scalable solutions.
During this year’s COP29, we aim to promote boldness over hesitation. A successful COP29 should move beyond fear of project failure and instead emphasise a focus on risk and reward. If we are to create a food production system that can feed a growing global population far in the future, we need to be bold and innovative. Small-hold farmers are incredibly important stakeholders in this challenge, however, they often face multiple barriers in terms of accessing tools that can enable them to future-proof their food production.
To help small-hold farmers to overcome these challenges and become the Impact Generators they can be, stakeholders such as financial and governance institutions, implementing organisations, and technology providers all have to come together to become Impact Enablers. Together we can provide them with the financial kick-start, knowledge and technology to transform their farming to become more profitable, resilient and sustainable. But for that, we need to be bold and take big bets.
In the COP context, low ambition is not an option; scaling rapidly to reach millions is essential. It is time to think differently and act decisively. We invite all key stakeholders—including global financial institutions, national development agencies, private equity, and other financial enablers—to join us in this shift toward high-impact action. The opportunity cost of leaving millions of acres and farmers untapped is too significant. By enabling sustainable farming, we can generate both better livelihoods and environmental resilience, positioning these farmers as true Impact Generators.
As part of the private sector, Spowdi and many of our peers, have done exactly what decision-makers have been asking for. We have created the technical solutions society needs to solve a critical issue. We have done so with considerable risk backed by private capital.
Now, it is time for institutional partners to step forward. COP29 is the platform for commitment and partnership to secure a sustainable, prosperous future for smart farming. See you at COP and for a future-proof global food production system.
