Spowdi Establishes Its First African Subsidiary – A Milestone In Accelerating Smart Farming Across East Africa

Swedish greentech company Spowdi today announces the launch of Spowdi Africa Ltd, a new subsidiary based in Nairobi, Kenya. The entity marks a major step forward in Spowdi’s commitment to empower smallholder farmers and accelerate the transition to climate-resilient, regenerative agriculture across the region.

Spowdi Africa Ltd has been established following successful early collaborations and initial deployments of Spowdi’s mobile solar-powered irrigation system. Feedback and field data from these efforts confirm the potential for wide-scale impact. With growing demand and ongoing partnerships across Kenya and neighboring countries, a local operational base is now essential to ensure streamlined support, training, and scale-up of the technology.

The new office will also serve as a platform to build and strengthen local and regional collaborations with key stakeholders, both governmental and private sector partners, that are committed to advancing sustainable food and water solutions.

“This is not just about entering a market – it’s about long-term presence and responsibility,” says Henrik Johansson, CEO and Co-founder of Spowdi. ”The decision to open Spowdi Africa Ltd reflects the momentum we see on the ground. It enables us to work more closely with farmers, communities, and stakeholders, and to respond faster and more effectively. It also signals our belief that innovation must be rooted in local ecosystems to truly empower transformation.”

Spowdi’s mobile drip irrigation system enables smallholder farmers to grow more food using less water, without fossil fuels. It is a technology designed for inclusion, supporting entrepreneurship, food security, and water resilience. With the establishment of Spowdi Africa Ltd, the company is now positioned to serve as both a technology provider and a catalyst for Smart Farming ecosystems in East Africa.
