Solar-powered water distribution

Spowdi® is short for “solar-powered water distribution”, and that is exactly what we do!  With a bit of sunshine and some water, our Spowdi Mobile Pro will irrigate your crops, quench your cattle or fill your water reservoirs.

We are Spowdi

We innovate and create solutions for a better and greener future

Spowdi with its patented system Spowdi Mobile Pro is a new unique technology in the farming sector. 15 years ago Henrik Johansson, founder and CEO of Spowdi, faced a challenge in the forests north of Uppsala, Sweden. It would be the beginning of a most unlikely innovation . He needed to pump water between two ponds with no electricity for miles, as he wanted to farm crayfish. Henrik called on a relative to help solve the problem. “We didn’t really want to build a pump, we just wanted to eat crayfish”, Henrik says. Today Henrik and Spowdi has a bigger mission; to empower small-hold farmers generate more food with Spowdi´s Greentech pump innovation – using less water and zero emissions.

We are an engineering company that strives to make a positive impact for farmers and the many people in the world. We empower small-hold farmers to secure food production in a sustainable way using solar power for distributing. Our system also saves time since irrigation is done automatically in the right time and focusing on the plant. We will not compromise regarding the environment and people’s wellbeing. We will do everything to make farmers be self-sufficient, independent and profitable, contributing to a greener and a more hopeful future.

A new technology for a greener tomorrow

There are approximately 500 million so-called one-acre farmers in the world. Roughly 20% of these farmers use mechanized diesel-powered irrigation. Many of these pumps are moved from farm to farm and run continuously. Each pump uses more than 200 liters of diesel each year resulting in 700 kg of CO2 per pump per year being released in to the environment.

The Spowdi system is a solution for distributing water and resilient food production. Organic production also contributes to maintaining sustainable agriculture with the use of renewable energy sources.

Spowdi Mobile Pro, a system designed to be used by food producers in need of flexible irrigation systems that can run on solar power. It is a system that supports every aspect of sustainable and resilient food production.

Food producers become more independent with Spowdi Mobile Pro; the solar panel generates enough power to run the system and charge the built-in back-up battery on a sunny day. No external energy sources like electric grids or diesel are necessary. The cost of running the system is extremely low compared to a diesel pump. The savings mean the system has paid for itself after 18-months use, compared to any diesel pump system. The Spowdi system is built to support a fair, healthy, and environmentally friendly food production system.

About Spowdi

Spowdi AB was founded in 2016. The company focuses on developing solar-powered water distribution systems. The company holds a world-wide patent on a new technology that uses compressed air instead of rotating impellers to move water. The benefit of this unique technology is that the system is robust, energy-efficient, lightweight and mobile and it can build enough pressure to run a drip irrigation system for a small farm. Read the story of how it all started with a crayfish dilemma in the deep forests of Sweden.

Spowdi Mobile Pro, a system designed to be used by small-scale food producers who need a flexible irrigation system they can run with a small and easy to carry solar-panel. Meet the farmers and read about best practice solutions.
